Black Dog Ride 2010

04 Sep 2010 - 11 Sep 2010

Black Dog Ride to the Red Centre. 4th - 11th September 2010. Last year Steve Andrews rode solo around Australia to raise awareness of depression. This year he's riding to the Red Centre and invites riders from all around the country to join him on this awesome adventure. Whether you ride for a day or two, or go the whole distance to the Red Centre, you will become a Black Dog Rider and help to bring attention to this debilitating illness which affects 1 in 5 Australians.
You are welcome to ride on your own, with some mates or join one of the group rides leaving from your state. More details on the group rides will be posted on the website soon www.blackdogride.com.au.

Enjoy the freedom of the open road, the unique camaraderie which bikers share and the feeling of being part of something which will make a difference.

Departure dates will vary depending on distance to be covered but those going to the Red Centre should time their ride to be in Alice Springs on Saturday morning September 11th for a mass ride to Glen Helen Resort where there will be an outback celebration of the ride.

The Black Dog Institute is an educational, research, clinical and community-oriented facility offering specialist expertise in mood disorders - a range of disorders that include depression and Bipolar Disorder (formerly called 'manic depression'). The Institute is attached to the Prince of Wales Hospital and affiliated with the University of New South Wales.

The Institute's mission is to advance the understanding, diagnosis and management of the mood disorders by continuously raising clinical, research, education and training standards. In so doing, the Institute aims to improve the lives of those affected - and in turn - the lives of their families and friends.

Depression impacts 1 in 5 Australians and according to the World Health Organisation, depression will be the number 1 cause of disability by 2030. Exercise is a great way to lift mood and relieve some symptoms of depression and anxiety. Exercise Your Mood Week from 11 to 19 September 2010 aims to educate all Australians about the benefits of regular exercise on your mental health. So get off the couch and get involved.
